Wildflower Identification Course in Waterton (afternoon)

Learn to identify wildflowers and provide those ‘wow’ moments to your guests!

This course will give you the fundamental skills to start your journey to properly identify wildflowers. You will enhance your wildflower knowledge with hands-on and field-based knowledge so that you can understand how to use flower identification books. The course is based in Alberta’s biodiversity hotspot, with over 50% of Alberta’s vascular species being found in Waterton Lakes National Park.

What to Expect: Your tour starts at the trailhead to Crandell Lake. This trail is excellent for being able to take your time, have the space to get close to wildflowers, and see how subtle changes to the landscape will change the local diversity. At the trailhead, we will welcome you to Waterton and start the tour with a detailed introduction about the biodiversity found within the Park.

You will finish the tour with a greater understanding of how to identify wildflowers, wildflower parts, key items to use for a proper identification, and basic botany terms.

Heather Davis

Heather grew up west of Edmonton on a farm with four brothers. She started her love for the outdoors at a young age and spent most of her childhood helping her mother in flower beds and in the garden. She later studied biological sciences at NAIT, and then environmental sciences at the University of Alberta. She has worked in the outdoors as a professional for over 15 years, as a native plant technician, an environmental consultant, for government formally known as Alberta Environment and Parks, and now owns her own business where she connects others to the outdoors on a daily basis. She loves everything about the outdoors from slow-paced recreation to face-paced recreation; and from the small things to the big things. As she continues to grow as an individual and grows her business, she finds herself driven to build conservation tourism through her passion and career.
